Modern Art

IMG_0250This photo may look like some modern art you may find in a museum, but let me assure you that this is a close-up of an ordinary object (okay, it was in the public and subject to the vicissitudes of the outdoors).

I like the movement suggested by the bold vertical white stroke running through the center of the photograph (carefully cropped to the rule of thirds) contrasted with the red.

Study in Holes

2013-04-03_16-35-34_227The more I look at this photo, the more I am drawn to it (don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it’s going up on a wall in my house 🙂 )

The first aspect of this photograph is the pattern formed by the holes. What I particularly enjoy is that the pattern is mysteriously interrupted on the lower right of the photo. What could explain that?

Secondly, the texture of the subject’s surface is incredibly interesting. The darker splashes of color look like they could be from a frenetic painter’s brush. They add life and much character to this photo.

Gritty Grooves

2013-04-03_16-35-18_86The texture and depth of this photograph make for quite an intriguing composition. Any guesses what it might be?

Stunning Close-up of a Bee

Initially this picture was so-so as you can see below:

But after a careful crop it became a stunning photo!

Wildflowers

2013-03-01_06-29-18_520To get this picture, I had to get very close to the ground and then shoot skyward. This enabled me to crop the buildings out of the picture.
